Despite carrying the virus there are ways of managing the outbreaks and symptoms nutritionally.
Two amino acids are important factors: Arginine is required for the herpes virus to replicate and flourish and Lysine on the other hand can inhibit the metabolism of arginine and therefore starves the virus of its fuel. So the trick is to stick to a diet low in arginine and high in lysine if you carry the virus or as soon as you can feel that first tickle on your lip.
Foods that are high in L-Arginine are:-
- Whole wheat
- Brown rice
- Peanut butter
- Certain multi vitamin supplements containing high amounts of arginine
Foods that are rich in L-Lysine:-
- Dairy products
- Brewer’s Yeast
